William J. “Bill” Moore, Jr. passed away on February 21, 2026, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was born in 1950, in Pennsylvania to William and Jacqueline Moore beginning a life that would be defined by devotion to family, service to country, and a healthy dose of storytelling.

Bill leaves behind his wife, Cindy, who stood beside him through every adventure. He is also survived by his children: Dawn (Joe) Binder, Trey (Fae) Moore, Suzanne (Tom) Deitering, Michelle (Victor) Sanchez, and Kevin (Aleks) Hill. He was very proud of his growing crew of grandchildren—Georgi, Jeffrey, Nathan, Billy, Madison, Andrew, Emily, Gus, Millie, Oliver, and Lincoln—each of whom he loved fiercely and bragged about often.

A 1972 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Bill formed lifelong friendships that he treasured deeply. The bond he shared with his classmates was something special—the kind of camaraderie that only comes from shared challenges, hard work, and a little mischief along the way.

Bill never missed a game. He coached softball and football when his kids were growing up, and later became a proud fixture in the stands for his grandchildren’s games and theater performances. He was their loudest fan—never shy about cheering, offering advice, celebrating a big play or when they showed a few dance moves—the sidelines won’t be the same without him.

Bill will be remembered for his strength, his loyalty, his deep love for his family, and the unmistakable pride he carried for the life he built. His family takes comfort in knowing he made a bold entrance to heaven calling out, “Go Navy, Beat Army!”.

Please join us in celebrating the life of this remarkable man.  Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 15th at Gilbert Memorial Park, 2100 East Queen Creek Road, Gilbert, Arizona 85297. A reception with light snacks and refreshments will immediately follow as we gather to share stories, laughter, and memories in his honor.

Attire is casual. In tribute to Bill’s love of country and service, we invite guests to wear red, white, and blue; Navy blue and gold in honor of the Academy; or red to recognize his proud service in the Marine Corps.  Semper Fi, Major Moore!

Bill was one of my favorite 25th Company people, always a pleasure to talk with and never one to mince words. May his family remember all the good times and may the Lord watch over them.

  • Chip Newhart ‘72

Bill was a good guy. We weren’t close friends but had several classes together. We said hi in Bancroft or walking around the yard. It was nice to know people like that!

  • My condolences to all of the family of Bill. I enjoyed all of the time I spent being with Bill. Whether it was on the Apache program and Future Combat System or out on the golf course. Always quick with a smile and filled with wisdom. The last time I saw Bill was on his tour of some western states. He was on his Harley towing a small trailer. He spent the night with Sue and me, and we were able to talk about the good times and all of our friends. His passing leaves a hole in our hearts and in the hearts of all that knew Bill.

God speed Bill. Fairways and greens.

  • Bill was in my company at the Naval Academy! We got into some” Good Trouble “ on numerous occasions. He was a very good friend.. he will be missed.

One of my most favorite softball coaches growing up. Such a charismatic and fun guy to know. There were always laughs when he was around. The world just lost another good one. Big hugs to his family.

  • Bill and I were pickleball buddies on his visits to Big Arm, Montana in the summer. I enjoyed his visits and will miss him and his zest for life and country. Rest in peace, my friend.

  • Bob “Hondo” Harrison’72

Was saddened to learn of Bill’s passing. Although as a member of 2nd Company I was on “the other side of the world “ I had a few classes with Bill and it resulted in some friendly banter given our respective NYC and Philly area backgrounds. May he rest in peace.

I first met Bill during interviews with our Congressman in November 1967. The next time I saw Bill was in June 1968 when we both ended up in 25th Company at the Naval Academy for the start of Plebe Summer. What ensued were numerous ‘adventures’ during our USNA days that forged a lifelong friendship with a good man and US Marine who I will always be proud to call my friend. You will not be forgotten. Farewell my Brother in Arms!

  • Richard(Dick) Wilkin
