Submit a PhotoGlade L. Hakes passed away peacefully in early July, 2025, in Gilbert, Arizona at the age of 90.
Glade lived a life of service to God, family and his fellowman. He was born and raised in New Mexico. He built model airplanes and played the saxophone. He served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Eastern States Mission. He met and married Janet and started their family in Scottsdale, Arizona. He worked for Motorola his entire career. He served as the Bishop of the Scottsdale 4th and 5th Wards and the Los Alamos Ward in Mesa and served another mission with Janet in Baltimore after he retired. He loved waterskiing, building and flying remote control airplanes, woodworking, and doing family history. He could fix anything and was always willing to use his skills to help others.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 11th, 2025 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse located at 3775 South Greenfield Road, Gilbert, Arizona. I am so thankful for eternal families and the knowledge I have concerning those precepts. I will be unable to attend, (I have CHF, congestive heart failure, stage 4) but my heart will be there, indeed! I love you all eternally!

Dear Aunt Janet, Jeff, Lori, Darin, and Eric: My sincere condolences. Uncle Glade was an exceptional man whose integrity, character, faith, and love were obvious to everyone who knew him. His example lives on in all of you, your families, and so many others whose lives he touched. I hope you find solace in remembering the good times and important lessons he shared. He is in a better place now, and his positive influence continues.
I am so thankful to have known and interacted with Glade Hakes, if even just a little bit. And I am grateful for the family he and Janet have raised. I am so pleased to say, “I know those people, and they are my friends.” I wish all of you all that is good at this time, and all that your husband, father, and family member would wish for you, for that is surely the very best.
Like my brother, I, too, am grateful for Glade Hakes! Sending the BIGGEST HUG to all of you – especially – Sister Hakes – Because of both of you I have been able to have Lynette, Darin and Jenae as dear friends and have always looked up to Lori, Jeff and Eric and their families inspired through Lynette’s eyes! It’s so hard to not have our dear ones near. I was not able to attend or watch the funeral today because of work – but please know that I am thinking on you all!

Dear Janet and family,
Please accept my sincere condolences for the death of your husband and father. Even with our valuable knowledge of the restoration of the gospel, it is still hard to say goodbye for a while. GladeLived an exemplary life, and I have been privileged to know him. He was my Bishop in Scottsdale when my children were little. And he helped each of us at times. He called me to my first leadership position in the church, that of primary president when I was very young, and my children were small. That was a real learning experience for me, but he had faith that I could do that.
I watched his funeral service yesterday and was so impressed with his life and his children. I have always looked up to you, Janet as an example of a righteous woman. I know you will have the comfort of your children, but know that others think of you and appreciate you.
