01/22/1944 - 01/08/2022

David Lynn Frohnapfel, 77, of Gilbert, AZ passed away Saturday, January 8, 2022 at home with family by his side.

Dave was born January 22, 1944 in Columbus, OH, to Hugh and Alta Frohnapfel. He grew up participating in many sports and playing with friends on The Mound in Moundsville, WV. After returning from the Navy, Dave married Sally Kay Downs on July 11, 1970. The couple moved from WV to Chicagoland with Dave’s job and started a family.

Most of Dave and Sally’s married life was spent in Lombard, IL. Dave transitioned from playing sports, to coaching his son and daughter in multiple activities, and then proudly watching his grandchildren participate in many sports. Dave loved following competitive sports and could often be heard from the sidelines. He was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and grew to love the Fighting Illini basketball team from the University of Illinois.

Dave enjoyed taking his family on road trips throughout the United States. The couple loved their beach days and spent vacation time in Michigan, South Carolina, and Florida. Dave and Sally relocated to Arizona in early 2021.

Dave is survived by his wife; two children, Brian (Jodi) Frohnapfel, Chatham, NJ; Leslie (Brian) Boston, Gilbert, AZ; five grandchildren, Emma Frohnapfel, Carly Frohnapfel, Madison Frohnapfel, Mia Boston, and Brock Boston. In addition, Dave is survived by his younger siblings; Rick Frohnapfel, Sharon Freeman, and Ed Frohnapfel.

In remembrance of Dave’s life the family asks that any charitable donations be made to one of Dave and Sally’s favorite places, The Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL. https://mortonarb.org
