Judy Lynne Schmitt, age 66 entered Heaven on December 9 th , 2023, surrounded by her family. Judy was known to many as a compassionate, kind, and loving woman. In 1977, Judy met the love of her life, Doug Schmitt, in Aberdeen, South Dakota at a mutual friend’s wedding. Later that year, the two were married and remained the best part of each other’s lives for 46 years. Together, Judy and Doug enjoyed spending time at their family cabin at Lake Byron and were members of American Lutheran Church. They made their home and family in Huron and welcomed two children to share the journey of life with. In 1978, their first daughter Amanda Lynne was born. They welcomed their son Ryan Douglas in 1983.
Included in almost every family picture was Dandy, the Schmitt’s Cocker Spaniel who was loved by Judy and her family very dearly. In 1993, Doug and Judy built their dream home that held their beautiful family for years to come.

Judy loved watching her horses and wild turkeys from her porch. She had an abundance of love for her two dogs, Sadie and Ruby and her two cats, Tootsie and Ellie. Judy had a delicate touch and was known as “Nana” to all of her grandchildren. They knew Nana would always be there to comfort and love them unconditionally.
Judy was a beacon of strength and despite health complications, was able to make sure everyone around her felt loved and cherished. She and Doug ventured to Queen Creek, Arizona in 2022 following the family she dearly loved, where she closed the final chapter of her life.
Judy will be remembered by her family and friends as a person they were glad to have known and had the blessing to love. Her laugh and smile were contagious, and the love she displayed cannot be replicated.
