Charlotte Mae Mattice
October 19, 1938 – January 26, 2026
Life began for Charlotte in Duncan, Arizona, daughter of Silas Edward Bradshaw and Lydia Mae
Nelson Bradshaw, the 10th child of a blended family. Charlotte was the “our’s” child, with 5 Bradshaw siblings, and 4 Webster siblings, and oh so loved by all. She was known by her brothers and sisters as “Winkie”, an endearment name given her by her father as the smallest, cutest, prettiest, little “winkie” of a thing to him.
When Charlotte was a young girl, Sikie and May relocated from Duncan to the Parker Valley, in Parker, Arizona, living on the Colorado River Indian Reservation where Sikie farmed. Charlotte grew up there developing countless friendships through the years. Upon graduation from Parker High School, Charlotte met Rollin Mattice, recently honorably discharged from the Navy, and their whirlwind romance ended in marriage in August of 1956. They bought their first little home in Parker in “Mormon Flats” on the edge of town, living next door to LeRoy and Gloria McVey, and across the street from Jerry and Jean Mattice. Charlotte worked at the Parker Telephone Company until her first child, a son, Kelly, was born in June of 1957. Twenty months later her first daughter, Patsy, was born in 1959.
Charlotte lived an active life in the early years, loving to water ski, taking her kids to the
Colorado River each hot summer afternoon with her dear friend Linda, so the kids could cool off and they could visit. There were the Easter picnics in the desert after church planned with her friends Gloria, Linda, Eleanor and Ruthie, creating unforgettable memories for all. She never missed a Parker High School Ballgame, or following Rollin to watch his adult Basketball, Baseball, Football playing. As the years passed on Charlotte got the deep yearning for more children, and in 1967 son number two, Philip, was born, followed by daughter number two, Karen, in 1971. Oh how she loved those two babies. Along the way, Charlotte was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and served as a teacher, and in the Primary, and Relief Society Presidencies.
In 1973, Charlotte and Rollin moved to Blythe, California for Rollin to open a new Car Dealership there. l<elly and Patsy were in High School by this time, leading very active lives which Charlotte passionately loved and supported. Charlotte hosted gourmet breakfasts for her kids and their friends after seminary, opened her home to large dance parties for the church and High School kids they associated with, as well as filling her station wagon to take them to out of town Stake Dances and ballgames. She served in the Young Women’s Program at Church, and reveled in being a great mom. During this time, the “Energy Crisis” derailed the Car Dealership opening, and Charlotte went back to work. She worked in the office at Charley Graham Chevrolet Buick until 1978, until Rollin moved them back to Parker. They lived there until 1981, when they moved to Mesa, Arizona.
After moving to Mesa, Charlotte got a job with Lewis — Brewer Construction Company, and worked there a few years, until she decided she needed a job with benefits, and went to work for Mesa Public Schools in their Payroll and Accounting Department. Charlotte worked for Mesa Schools 15 years until her retirement. These were not happy times after the Car Dealership debacle, and in 1991 Charlotte and Rollin divorced. Neither remarried, and lived within 5 miles of each other in Chandler, Arizona, remaining friendly for 32 years until Rollin’s passing.
Charlotte is preceded in death by her ex-husband Rollin Mattice, parents, Silas & May Bradshaw, brothers Wayne Bradshaw, Lloyd Webster(Jo), Nelson Webster(Jean), sisters, Doris
