Susan Lorene Matheson was one of those rare souls who was far too good for this world. One could say many things about her many homemaking talents from the delectable dishes that came from her kitchen, her sewing skills, or her tidy home, but nothing is quite as important as her choice to be a follower of Jesus Christ. As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, her goal and mission in life was to be as much like her Savior Jesus Christ as possible. She achieved this through word and deed each day of her life. Truly it can be said of her that her life was spent in service. She volunteered and served in her church no matter the position, time required, or effort needed. Always a listening ear and an open heart, she cared for and loved all who came her way, be it family, friend, or stranger. She believed and lived the Savior’s command to, “love one another.” Chiefly among those she served was her children, to whom she dedicated her whole heart with tenderness, patience, hope and faith that was capable of moving mountains in their lives. Each of her children can say she is the greatest blessing in their lives.
After a long battle with cancer, her family and friends are profoundly saddened at her passing, but also rejoice as she has successfully graduated from this phase of her life and continues on to a higher plain of glory. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Derry, as well as her 5 children and their respective spouses Ericka (husband Kevin), Derry Mac (wife Terry), Jarom, Sarah, and Nelson (wife Kalyn), and 7 grandchildren.
I am so sorry for the loss, I met Susan once and I felt her love. May the memories be cherished forever. Sending my deepest condolences.
So sad to hear of Susan’s passing. She was truly a wonderful person. She was always so kind and willing to help others. Prayers to Derry and family for peace and comfort and this most difficult time.
Susan has been a dear friend since grade school. She was always so fun, so kind, genuine, and caring. She was a loyal friend that you could always count on. Susan and I were bridesmaids together for our dear friend Cathy Bethancourt Stewart. When Susan and Derry got married Cathy and I were bridesmaids for Susan. Because I moved to another state we didn’t get to see each other much over the years, but when we did it was if no time had passed at all. I will miss her so much but we will see each other again. My deepest condolences to her family.
Sad to hear of Susan’s passing, praying for the family as they go through this difficult time in their lives.
It has been years since I have seen Derry and Susan, but even at a young age I could feel her goodness. She was a wonderful example of a disciple of our Savior, Jesus Christ!
Derry and family our thoughts and prayers will be with you!
I believe our mom was one of those who ran to meet her as she passed through the veil! What a joyful reunion.
