Stephen was born to George and Juliet Corwin on February 12, 1938, in Portland, Oregon. He passed away on September 21, 2023. Steve was preceded in death by his wife of forty years, Joanne “Jo” Reilly who passed away July 24, 2023, brother James, and sister Joan. Steve is survived by his sister Claire Corwin Kordosky, daughter Leslie Nieves, son Scott Corwin, as well as five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Steve was the youngest of four siblings and graduated from High School in Hood River, OR where his father was the school Superintendent. He was active in sports during high school and during the summer break he would work with his dad. One such job was forest fire watch duty in a remote forest tower for the United States Forest Service!
With lots of nieces and nephews, Steve was the “cool” uncle. Stories include saving his nephew Steve from a sinking raft in the ocean, nephew Ron always wanted to be his partner in family card games of pinochle, and he had the “coolest laugh.” He had a passion for airplanes, building model airplanes, and riding with his Uncles Les and Jerry in their planes. This passion encouraged Steve to join the Air Force. He graduated with the rank of Captain from San Jose State College. Steve went on to serve in Indiana, Minesota, spent a year in Korea, and then returned to California.
After Steve left the Air Force, he lived in Arizona for eight years and then relocated to San Jose where he and Jo were married. They stayed in San Jose for twenty-five years while he worked as a civil engineer. Steve worked at both Motorola and retired from Lockheed Martin. Steve was very analytical, enjoyed figuring out problems, and working with his hands.
Steve’s other passion was golf. Having grown up playing golf with his dad, he continued to play throughout his life and loved spending time on the golf course! In San Jose he had his own business called “The Mulligan Shop” where he worked out of his garage restoring and building custom golf clubs.
When Steve retired, he and Jo moved to Arizona to spend time with their Arizona family for the last fifteen years. Steve continued to play golf for several years and Jo worked in their garden.
