Sandra “Sandy” L. Femenia, 71, passed away on April 16, 2026. Born on February 27, 1955, she was a lifelong Arizona resident who spent most of her years in Gilbert, the place she proudly called home.
Sandy was a woman of intelligence, dedication, and deep faith. She earned her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and, after excelling on the LSAT, considered attending law school. She ultimately chose a different path—education—earning her teaching degree and dedicating 30 years to shaping young lives. While her impact in the classroom was meaningful and lasting, it was her life beyond it that defined her most.
Her greatest passion, pride, and joy were her children and family. Sandy poured her heart into raising her children, always putting them first and supporting them in every way possible. She was an incredible mother and later a devoted grandmother—roles she cherished deeply. Her children carry with them the constant love, unwavering strength, and joy she gave so selflessly.
Sandy is survived by her son, Matt; her daughter, Sarah, and son-in-law, Andy; her beloved granddaughter, Charlotte, daughter of Matt and Christi; her cherished brother, Dave, and his wife, Denise; and her cousins, Kathy, Kenny, and Keith.
She will be remembered for her steadfast Christian faith, her deep devotion to family, and the joy she found in life’s simple pleasures. She loved capturing memories through photographs, savoring a good cup of coffee, staying active through running—and even surfing in her younger years—watching sports (especially baseball) and the news, and listening to oldies music. She also had a playful spirit and was known for her quirky sayings, like “bug juice,” which brought smiles to those around her.
There are no words to fully express how deeply Sandy will be missed or how profoundly she is loved. Her legacy lives on in the family she adored and the many lives she touched.
