Robert Lee Calvin, Sr., affectionately known as “Big Bob,” passed away peacefully on April 16, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on July 9, 1953, in Tucson, Arizona, Bobby spent his life rooted in the heart of Arizona, where he built a legacy of love, laughter, and deep connections with everyone around him.
Bobby was a devoted husband to Melva Calvin and a loving father to Romel Calvin, Charlene Calvin, Camille Calvin, Madinah Hillman, Makisha Wilson-Primus, Myra Wilson, and Mervin Wilson. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Robert Lee Calvin, Jr. (Bobcat); his parents, Mattie Pearl Calvin and Willie Charles Calvin; and his grandsons, Robert Calvin III (Jue-Jue) and Bobby Calvin III.
Bobby’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends. He cherished moments camping, fishing, enjoying motor-sports, traveling, cooking for loved ones, watching sports, and sharing his trademark jokes and laughter. Time spent with his grandchildren was especially dear to him, and he made every moment with them count.
More than anything, Bobby was a role model to all who knew him. His warmth, humor, and strength of character left a lasting impact on generations of family and friends.
He leaves behind numerous grandchildren, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who will carry forward his legacy of love and light.
A viewing will be held on Monday, April 28th at 11:00 a.m., followed by funeral services at 1:00 p.m. and a repass. Services will take place at Gilbert Memorial Park in Gilbert, Arizona.
Big Bob will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
