Richard Chester “Rich” Seremak, age 81, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025, in Gilbert, Arizona. Born on March 25, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois, Rich lived a life marked by devotion to family, faith, and community.
Rich was a proud graduate of the University of Illinois at Champaign, where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering. He later pursued further education at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, receiving a Master of Business Administration. His academic achievements were rooted in a strong work ethic that began early in life—he started caddying at the age of ten at Glen Oak Country Club in Glen Ellyn, Illinois and earned an Evans Scholarship from the Western Golf Association.
Professionally, Rich built a successful career beginning with Ryerson Steel in Chicago and Elk Grove Village, Illinois. His leadership skills led him to serve as superintendent of their plant in Dayton, Ohio. He later joined Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago, Illinois, where he continued to apply his talents and dedication.
Rich’s personal life was centered around his deep love for his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Pamela (née Skorczewski), his beloved sons Richard (Tracy) and Jason (Meghan), and his cherished grandsons Logan, Levi, Catcher, and Finnegan. He also leaves behind his dear brother William (Dolores), along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Rich was preceded in death by his parents William and Sophia.
A man of unwavering faith, Rich was a faithful Catholic who attended weekly Mass throughout his life. He was especially active at St. Anastasia Parish in Waukegan, Illinois—where his children attended elementary school—and where he developed lasting friendships rooted in shared values and mutual respect. His commitment to honoring the dignity of all people was evident in both word and deed.
Rich had a lifelong passion for golf that began with caddying as a boy and continued throughout his life. He was a long-time member of Bonnie Brook Golf Course in Waukegan, Illinois and Power Ranch Golf Club in Gilbert, Arizona. He found joy on the course and camaraderie among fellow golfers. He also took great pride in being involved with the YMCA’s Indian Guides program alongside his sons—a reflection of the importance he placed on fatherhood and mentorship. Whether cheering from the sidelines or attending games with enthusiasm, Rich loved supporting the sporting events of both his sons and grandsons.
Those who knew Rich will remember him for his warm heart, quick wit, and steadfast loyalty to those he loved. His priorities were clear: God first; then family; then friends; always with an open hand extended to anyone who needed kindness or support.
May Rich’s memory be a blessing to all who knew him—and may it bring comfort to those who mourn his passing while celebrating a life so well lived. Visitation will be held Monday, June 23, 2025 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Gilbert Memorial Park. Rich and Pam were our neighbors in Gilbert for 10+ years. We loved when they would arrive for the “winter” and he always greeted us with kindness and warmth. He loved our kids and they loved seeing him out and saying hello. We had many chats and they were kind enough to open their home to our visiting family members when we needed extra space. Having good neighbors is a treasure, we will always think of Rich that way.
Although I never met Rich, Pam has been a dear member of our bookclub. As others have said, we always look forward to her getting back to Gilbert for the winter. Our hearts break for you, Pam. Sending love and hugs your way.
