Mary Lou Lloyd, passed away peacefully at her home in Queen Creek, AZ on February 6, 2021. She had been battling breast cancer for more than 8 months. Mary Lou was born on September 30, 1946 in Waynesville, MO to Aaron S. Hodge Jr. and Ida Lee (O’Dell) Hodge. She was married to Rev. David Lloyd, a pastor in the Church of God, Anderson, IN. They had celebrated 43 years of marriage. She is the proud mother of two sons; Jonathan David and Matthew Aaron. Both of whom are highly involved in music ministry and are strong followers of Jesus. Mary Lou’s mother, Ida Lee (O’Dell) Hodge, and her grandfather, E.A. O’Dell, were also both pastors in the Church of God, Anderson, IN.
Mary Lou took piano lessons as a young girl and music became one of the loves of her life. Through the years, she taught piano lessons to hundreds of students of all ages. She was a very talented, accomplished musician who instilled the love of music in the hearts of her students. She was very active in the music and worship ministry of the local church, Women’s Bible study groups, and the discipleship of young women in the Christian faith. Sharing Jesus with others was the passion of her life. Mary Lou was a devoted wife, dedicated mother, and an adored role model to her three grandchildren.
For many years, Mary Lou was a school teacher serving children from Kindergarten through 2nd grade. She taught at schools in New Castle, IN, Normal, IL, Mesa, AZ, Evansville, IN, and Tempe, AZ. Mary Lou loved children and loved devoting her time and talents to helping them grow and discover their worth in God’s love.
Mary Lou led a very happy, active life filled with family, friends, and church activities. Especially, she enjoyed spending time with her three grandchildren: Jaxon Jonathan (8), Harbor Autumn (3), and Kashton David (3). She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of kindness, patience, and faith. She always made others feel valuable!
She was preceded in death by her father, Aaron Hodge Jr., her mother Ida Lee (O’Dell) Hodge, and a brother, Preston LaMoine Hodge. She is survived by her husband, David; two sons and their wives, Jonathan & Michelle Lloyd, and Matthew & Promise Lloyd; a brother and his wife, Maurice & Nancy Hodge; three grandchildren, Jaxon Jonathan (8), Habor Autumn (3), and Kashton David (3); a niece and her husband, Audra & Justin Kauffman, and a nephew and his wife, Jared & Renee Hodge; and six great nieces and nephews; Daniel Kauffman (12), James Kauffman (10), Joel Kauffman (6), Sydney Hodge (6), Rylee Hodge (4), and Raelyn Hodge (2).
The family held a private graveside service, and two Celebration of Life services are being planned for the coming months in Arizona and Indiana.
