Linda Darlene Buchanan, age 67, passed away January 8th 2020 in her home in Gilbert Arizona, surrounded by her husband of 40 years and her children. She was born July 14, 1952 in Bakersfield California, to  Joseph “Morgan” Hubbard and Hazel Marie Miller. She has two younger sisters Debbie Cooper and Regina “Gina” Balmer.

She and her sisters grew up in the age of Drive-in Movies, Poodle Shirts, Bouffant hair, and The Beatles. She witnessed the birth of Rock and Roll, yet she loved the Lennon Sisters. Her life was filled with long summer nights when she rode her bike and played with her friends. She attended school in Bakersfield until the twelfth grade when her family moved to Los Gatos California.

She graduated from Los Gatos High school. She was taught the value of work and had many jobs. One of her favorite was at Fosters Freeze, where she learned the invaluable skill of dipping ice cream cones in chocolate.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she learned the value of service and worked diligently in many volunteer positions. Her faith was very important to her. Primary is where her heart always was and the children loved her.

On March 29th 1980 she married her best friend Curtis Buchanan. They didn’t waste any time having kids. Their children include three daughters and one son. Linda helped Curtis with his final years of college. She babysat for many kids. She always had many kids in tow when she was shopping. She worked for an insurance agent and was even a dental receptionist. After moving the family to Arizona in 1997, she took a job at Sunsplash for the summer and even worked in an elementary school cafeteria where she loved seeing her son each day.  She eventually got hired by Chandler Gilbert Community College. She started as a receptionist and worked her way up to math division secretary. She loved her time at the school and made many friends in both the staff and student body.

Linda was an avid yard-saler, which was one of her favorite Saturday activities. She loved to cook, bake and cater events. She collected nativities from around the world and cook books that she loved to look through more than anything. She even published a family cook book that she shared with friends.

She is survived by her husband, Curtis Buchanan; 4 children and their spouses, Amber and Lincoln Turley, Jessica and Tyler Anderson, Monica and John Gittins, and Jeffrey Buchanan; 8 grand kids (with 1 one on they way). Her sisters Debbie Cooper and Gina Balmer and a mother-in-law Marilyn Buchanan

Condolences

  • She sounded like she lived a very joyful life. She was hardworking and faithful and that’s evident in her amazing children. I’m proud to know the Buchanan sisters and it sounds like they possess many of their mother’s traits. I’m so sorry for your loss. My prayers are with all of you.
