Strong Faith, Strong Man, Strong Heart

Iver Olaf Linge, 94 but almost 95, was born in Los Angeles on December 21, 1929 and passed into heaven on December 15, 2024.  He was the husband of Lois Yvonne Linge for 70 years, and they were devoted to each other until her passing in 2021.  Iver is survived by daughters Lisa Weaver and her husband Bill, Lori Jay and her husband Terry, and son Paul Iver Linge. Iver was the beloved Grandpa to 3 grandchildren, Melissa Twine and her husband Ty, Andrew Weaver and his wife Alix, Leann Perlmutter and her husband David, and to his 4 great-grandchildren Makenna, Trey, Ethan and Claire.  Iver’s smile would light up the room when he saw his grandchildren and great-grandchildren!  He was also Uncle Iver to many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

Iver was the youngest of 7 children and was the only boy, a fact he often liked to share with others.  He was so very proud of all of his sisters, as well as their shared Norwegian heritage.  He was a member of the Sons of Norway Lodge in Culver City, CA for 75 years/Life Member.  He also enjoyed being a Boy Scout and could still recite the Boy Scout oath at age 94.  Iver attended and played football at Dorsey High School in Los Angeles and attended Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at that time, where he met Lois.  Although singing was not one of his best talents, he joined the church choir just so he could meet her.  They were married when they were both 21.  Iver became an apprentice cabinet maker before they were married, following in his father’s footsteps.  He worked as a master cabinet maker for over 60 years, and then made creative wood crafts and crosses until age 92.  He proudly served in the Army Reserves in the early 1950’s.

Iver loved the Lord and loved being part of his church community.  He made the pulpit, lectern, altar rails, and flower holders for Bethel Lutheran Church in Encino, CA and made communion stands and altar rails for Faith Lutheran Church in Menifee, CA.  His favorite day of the week was Sunday, so he could go to church and out to lunch with family and friends.  Iver enjoyed many hobbies over the years including gardening, fishing, playing cards and all kinds of games, his little Pomeranian dog Rocky, golfing, Dodgers baseball and Rams football.

Iver will always be remembered for his smile, kindness, talent, generosity, love of family and friends, and his love and care for Lois. We will miss him more than words can express, but his legacy of faith and family will live on for all of us to remember and cherish.

A Memorial Service and Luncheon for Iver’s family and friends will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Saturday, January 11 at 11:30 a.m.  St Paul is located at 30600 Thousand Oaks Blvd in Agoura Hills, CA  91301.
