Edward Donald Riley

Edward Donald Riley, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away with a soft landing, surrounded by his family and love on April 5th, at the age of 76.

Born in Troy, New York, and raised in Simi Valley, California, Ed proudly served his country as a member of the Army II Field Force, A Btry 2/32 Artillery, during the Vietnam War. His love for his country and his fellow veterans remained a cornerstone of his life.

As a young man, Ed spent his summers body surfing the break at Rincon and County Line, a joy he carried with him throughout his life. The ideal day for Papa would always include a quiet morning trout fishing along the McKenzie River and an ice cold Bohemia beer. He had a deep appreciation for simple pleasures: strong black coffee, dark chocolate, and a perfectly cooked New York steak — always rare.

A lifelong car guy, Papa took great pride in his restored 1965 Mustang Fastback, a true reflection of his meticulous and passionate spirit. He was terrifically funny and quick-witted, bringing laughter and joy to everyone around him, even in his final days.

Above all, Papa was a devoted family man. He was an amazing father to Donna, Danny, and Danielle, always ready to share his time and offer subtle wisdom exactly when it was needed. His love extended to his seven grandchildren — Lauren, Bailee, Gabby, Ella, Taylor, Jake, and Chase — and two great-grandchildren Norah and Owen, who all knew that Papa always had an Oreo to share and a warm smile to offer.

Ed is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 58 years, Carol; his children, Donna, Danny, and Danielle; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Bill and Patty. He is reunited in heaven with his parents, Marion and Donald, his sister Jackie, his brother Joe, and his brother-in-law Larry.

A service to honor Ed’s life will be held at Gilbert Memorial Park, 2100 East Queen Creek Road, Gilbert, AZ 85297, on Friday, May 2nd at 5:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Arizona Veterans Mission Group, honoring Ed’s dedication to veterans.

Edward Donald Riley lived a truly remarkable life filled with love, laughter, and an appreciation for the little things. He will be dearly missed and celebrated by his family for the rest of their lives.
