Cynthia Rae Vergith

On Nov. 6 th , 2023, Cynthia Rae Vergith (Wilmes), beloved Mother and Grandmother, passed away peacefully at her Phoenix Residence after a brief illness. A Celebration of Life service is planned to be held in Sioux City, IA late spring of 2024.

Born in Quincy, IL on April 25 th , 1954 to Lt. Donald J. Wilmes, Sr. and Betty Rae Wilmes (Utesch) of Sioux City, IA, Cynthia lived a full life traveling to many parts of the world, including Japan, Taiwan, Hawaii and multiple states with her family. Upon her Fathers retirement from the U.S. Navy in 1969, she moved back to her hometown of Sioux City.

Cindy was an avid bowler and loved to sew but her primary enjoyment in life was raising her two children and spoiling her grandchildren. She worked as an insurance claims processor for NWIO/CNOS for just shy of 40 years and was an active member of First Lutheran Church of Sioux City before retiring and moving to Arizona in 2019 to be closer to her daughter and granddaughter.

Survivors include: Her Son, Kasey E. Vergith and wife Megan of Sioux City, IA, her daughter, Candice R. Vergith, of Gilbert, AZ, a brother, Donald J. Wilmes, Jr. and his wife, Jodeen of Phoenix, AZ, and three grandchildren: Amyrah, London and Cash.

Her kindness was reflected in all who had the pleasure of knowing her and her memory will live on in the hearts of her Family and friends. May she rest in Peace.
