Carol Ann Phelps, 71, passed away surrounded by family on January 29, 2023 in Phoenix, Arizona. She is survived by her husband Robert, her three sons – Jason, Derek, and Shawn, her brother Terry, and her 11 grandchildren and great grandchildren. Carol was born in Durango, Colorado on February 3, 1951. She was the youngest of three and loved her two siblings, Terry and Susan.

She had very fond memories of growing up in Durango, was a good student, and even played in the band. As those who know her are aware, she was fantastic with anything numerical, so she pursued a career in accounting. Another passion was anything to do with children. At one time, she was a professional babysitter, and her last job was as a crossing guard at the local elementary school. She thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the students through her interactions with them in the morning and afternoon.  She even cared for children in Thailand!

As a mom of three rambunctious boys, Carol gave everything to her children, sacrificing and giving of herself always. She was the real definition of selfless. Once she became a Grandparent, her world expanded even more as she was able to watch her grandkids grow up and be a prominent part of their lives.

Carol loved the mountains, bowling, snow, honey, skiing, and anything prickly pear. She also enjoyed the simple things: time spent together with loved ones, chatting, joking around, and sharing a good meal. Carol lived a life that was dedicated to God, her children, grandchildren, husband, and her loved ones, including her beloved pets. In spite of the difficulties in her life, she showed such amazing inner strength, faith in God, resilience, and an unrelenting sense of humor that kept her and the ones around her going.

Carol will be remembered fondly by those who knew her as selfless, dedicated, and loving. She will be deeply missed yet will live on in the memories of those whose lives she touched. We are all blessed to have known Carol because simply knowing her has made us all better people.

My dear dear friend…I am devastated with the news of your passing. I’m comforted knowing you are at peace and no longer struggling with health issues. Also, we’re so thankful you came to visit and I’ll have those precious memories and pictures to ponder our long lasting friendship since 7th grade at Smiley Jr High. We played flute and marched together for 6 years. You spent the night when we were young teenagers and laughed until dawn. I’ll always remember your sweet smile and laugh. I love you Carol (Dorsett) Phelps. It was an honor knowing you and I’ll miss you terribly. 😘😢❤️🙏

  • I met Carol at Frontier’s. Sweetest woman alive. Great to have known her.
