Obituary

Carmella Marie McClain was born September 19, 1945. She was born in Sicily and came to America through Ellis island at 7 years old. She became a US citizen living in Ohio, until finally residing in Arizona, most recently in Gilbert. Carmella was a true Italian. Stubborn, opinionated, argumentative though she would say just explaining why she was right.

She had a huge heart and her family meant EVERYTHING to her. She had lifelong friends that she considered family as well. She had an open door policy where you were always welcome to stop by for a visit.

Carmella fought a battle that lasted 7+ years. The cancer that took her body could not take her spirit and she fought it until the bitter end. She is survived by her husband George McClain who was her love of over 40 years. George was her selfless caregiver and there at her bedside as she took her last breath. She is also survived by her only daughter Nicole McClain and oldest son Paul Ebbing, his wife Sabrina and her two grandsons Hunter and Holden who were the light of her life. Carmella went to be with God as an angel among us all April 22, 2022.

I met Carmella and George during a challenging time in my life. She started a conversation that lasted 2+ years! We discovered that we grew up in Cleveland OH in neighboring areas. She remembered my children’s names, where they lived and what they did for a living! The love I felt from her and George is/inspiring. I will miss her physical presence but not her sweet, persevering spirit. Rest well my friend. Praying for peace and comfort for George, Nicole, Paul and family.

Carmella left a mark on my life in the most wonderful way. She welcomed me into her home in 1981 and I stayed for almost two years, with her and her children. She was a force to be reckoned with and I admired her strength and bluntness. She would always give me her honest advice and opinions which I welcomed immensely. She was generous and made me laugh so hard at times. I only wish I had her courage. She will be missed so much. She truly was a great friend and I feel like she was a second mom to me. Rest well Carmella.

Sending love to George and the McClain family from Arkansas. Carmella was truly one of a kind and will be very missed. One of my favorite memories of her is the day she arrived to her appointment wearing a purple wig ? Wearing that wig was a big departure from her comfort zone and knowing she did it to have a little fun with my coworkers and I really made it a special surprise.

I met Carmella 40 yrs ago at a family get together after she and Uncle George got married. I instantly felt a connection to her and loved spending time, seeking advice from her and hearing her incredible stories of her journey in life. She is so dearly missed by all who were touched by her wonderful self!! My love, hugs, prayers of comfort go out to Uncle George, Nikki, Paul, Sabrina, Hunter and Holden.
