About Calvin Edward “Binbin” Arayon
Calvin Edward Arayon, affectionally known as “Binbin” to his family and closest friends, was taken from this world far too soon, with his untimely passing on Wednesday January 31 st , 2024.
Calvin was born in Laguna, Philippines and moved to Arizona with his family in 2003. He grew up in San Tan Valley, Arizona, going to Benjamin Franklin Charter Schools until he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2020. He was promptly awarded a full-ride scholarship in the ASU BSN program, and was expected to graduate in May 2024. Within days of his passing, the ASU Dean of Nursing confirmed that Calvin will receive his diploma posthumously, and has provided the family with the opportunity to honor Calvin with a future scholarship in his name.
Calvin’s soul was infused with love and kindness. He was quick to laugh at his own expense, and enjoyed joking with his friends and family. He was a loving son, brother, grandson, cousin, and friend. Both his Lola (grandmother) and Nanay (mother) have been battling cancer for some time, and Calvin was always there to help in any way he could, even while going to school full-time and working part-time as a personal shopper at Walmart.
Music was an important part of Calvin’s life. He was a member of the Benjamin Franklin Charter School Orchestra and learned to play the piano, guitar, violin, and ukelele. When he wasn’t going to school, or working, Calvin enjoyed playing music, singing karaoke, and playing computer games. He once said that his dream was to work alongside his mother in the ICU. He also wanted to save up enough money to pay off the mortgage on his parents’ home.
In the days following Calvin’s passing, it has been amazing to witness how many souls he touched during his short time with us. The outpouring of support and love from people who knew him has been heartwarming, and his family will always cherish knowing how many people loved their Binbin.
