Amber Lynn Johnson Close was born on February 19, 1965, in Albert Lea, Minnesota to Erling and Cheryl Johnson. As the eldest of three children, from an early age, Amber exemplified compassion and a nurturing spirit, qualities that defined her character and endeared her to all who knew her. Her brother, Chad Johnson, and her sister, Shawna Johnson Gardner, looked up to her as a guiding light from their childhood through their adult years. After completing her education at Dawson-Boyd School, Amber pursued her passion at a Cosmetology School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, which foreshadowed her lifelong flair for bringing beauty into the world.

Upon graduation, she moved to Mesa, Arizona, with her parents, where she started her own family. The joy of motherhood first came to her with the birth of her daughter, Michelle Ann Johnson, on February 6, 1986. It was here in Mesa that she met Darren M. Close, her future husband and the love of her life. Their marriage on April 15, 1989, marked the beginning of a partnership filled with love and mutual respect. They expanded their family with the births of Siera Irene Close on February 28, 1991, and Brendan Gene Close on August 20, 1992. In 2007, Amber and Darren were delighted to welcome Katie Eastman and her family into ours, enriching our family circle.

Amber’s home was an extension of her heart, filled with warmth and an open door to family and friends. She had an innate talent for making each holiday and birthday a memorable event, ensuring that everyone felt cherished and important. Her ability to decorate and celebrate was not just a hobby, but a manifestation of her love and generosity.

Above all, Amber was a devoted Nana. Her eight grandchildren were the apples of her eye, and she cherished every moment with them, spoiling them as only a grandmother could. Even during times of illness, Amber’s unwavering commitment to her grandchildren never faltered; she remained a central figure in their lives, nurturing them with love, stories, and the occasional secret treat.

Amber’s legacy is one of unconditional love and ceaseless devotion. Her family was her world, and she was theirs. Her presence was a signal of joy and comfort in their lives, and her memory will continue to inspire and guide them. Amber Lynn Johnson Close’s life was a testament to the beauty of selfless love, and while she will be dearly missed, her spirit will forever reside in the hearts of those she touched.
